Born in Oklahoma, but raised in Ohio where I honed my wrestling and bowhunting skills. I moved to Oregon and made my home in Eugene at the age of 21. Less than a year later I embarked on my martial arts journey in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). After a few years I expanded my studies to include Muay Thai, Jeet Kun Do, and Judo. My work history started in manufacturing which cultivated a strong mechanical background. In 2005 I left manufacturing to start my martial arts career at Northwest Martial Arts. After many years of training and competing I help found Rise Fighting Championships a mixed martial arts promotion. I have been privileged to learn and train under some of the best BJJ instructors in the world such as Royler Gracie and work with legendary fighters like UFC Champ BJ Penn and Pide competitor Renato “Charuto” Verissimo. In 2012 I received my black belt in BJJ and did my part to bring Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to the masses. Around the same I was involved in a motorcycle accident which resulted in serious head and neck injuries causing sever and frequent migraine headaches.
Unable to teach or train martial arts anymore I was searching for my next direction in life. I bought a HK USP45 for my first pistol and a left handed leather holster. After a short time the leather holster began to collapse and I began searching for a kydex holster. At the time there was only one company making holsters for my lefty model. Not finding what I was looking for I decided to make my own. After extensive research and making plenty of holsters and sheaths for friends and family… Highlander Custom Holsters was born. Hand making holsters blended my love for self defense, the second amendment, and American made products.
